Philosophy

Christian Education

Every child is a blessing of God. We should appreciate their uniqueness and support them to understand that they are reflecting the wonder of God’s image. Differences in ability, culture, language, race, and learning methods make our community flourish. Christian educators should celebrate the benefits of diversity with each individual child and family, and enable them to understand and acknowledge these differences. Children are competent and they are ready to learn when provided an environment where they can thrive.

Montessori Method

We recognize and support each child’s developmental needs. We provide a prepared environment in where the materials and activities meet each child’s needs as they work with their hands and collaborate together with their peers in a small community of children with the guidance of a trained Montessori guide. Our program is tailored for children ages 6 months -5 years old.

Health & Safety

As a high-quality child care centre, creating a healthy and safe environment at Tree of Life Montessori Academy should always be our top priority. We believe that maintaining a safe and healthy environment is not only essential for the physical, social, and emotional development of children but also supports the cognitive development of them. In order to promote the safety and health of TLMA, we provide age-appropriate stimulating activities, set up a safe and secure environment, follow safety guidelines all times, inspect toys regularly, and prepare for emergencies.

The Child

We believe that each child is a right bearing individual as an educator. Children are competent and capable learners and creative scientists. Children should be given choices, responsibilities, and opportunities to initiate their own learning. We value and develop each child's strengths, interests, skills, abilities and knowledge and their unique languages to extend their learning. Children need the assurance of being loved and cared for while they are enjoying an educational environment. Teaching children is my passion. Security and trust are very important components as well, of my relationship with each child.

The early years of a child’s life are busy. I believe learning is happening all the time and is interwoven through all developmental domains. These include: physical, social/emotional, cognitive and communication. Therefore, the goal of early childhood education programs should be to make this ongoing learning experience safe, positive, and fun, nurturing the whole child as I strive to guide them into the next stage of development with confidence in themselves and an excitement for continued learning.

Environment

The environment plays a major role in the success of an early childhood program. It should enhance the children’s interests in all developmental domains. I believe learning in an early childhood environment is done most successfully through stations that can be visited, explored, and revisited again and again. The environment should take into consideration the social skills, communication skills, physical abilities or challenges, and learning styles of the children being served. I valued and honored the simplicity. The more we take away, the more intimate relationships can be built.

“Stand aside for a while and leave room for learning, observe carefully what children do, and then, if you have understood well, perhaps teaching will be different from before.” - by Loris Malguzzi
